The amount is declared by the Qazi and the bride has the liberty to use the amount according to her will. She can ask the meher amount in the form of cash, land, property, etc which gives the security and freedom in the marriage. A Muslim wedding is usually very brief which quintessentially involves repeating the word “Qubool Hai” thrice and then the marriage culminates with the official signing of a marriage contract. As the couple mutually offer their consent by declaring “Qubool Hai”, there is an onrush of merriment between the two families and they mark the event by hugging and congratulating each other. There is also a ceremony called Fatihah where the first chapter of the Quran is recited and the couple exchange vows for a successful marriage ahead. Post the ceremony the bride and groom mark the beautiful event by sharing a sweet meal such as fruits or desserts. The two families eat sweets and share their happiness by bestowing their grace and blessings on the couple. The reception is usually held at the same day at the Nikaah where the friends and family have a grand feast to celebrate the event.
